Portal + Quantum Leap = a fun sounding story
A man invents a machine that creates two portals. One stays in the same place and time as it is put, the other stays only in the place it is put. This allows him to go back over and over in time to have adventures (Ground-Hog Day-ish if comedy, Time Cop-ish if you want to win the Pulitzer). Except that he is aging much faster than others around him, and every time he needs to move the first portal he can not go backwards beyond that point.
Add in some family members that die, and some reasons he has to place a new portal as to lose the ability to revisit his lost family, and you have a fun story that I would read! So go write it, and give me a link when you are done!
